It is also not just a representation of symbols and ideas. It is a direct experience of inner peace, free from attachment to the illusionary solidity of the ego and the phenomenal world. 
A mandala is a circular round shaped in symbol widely popular in Tibetan Buddhism and Hinduism. Different Mandala represents different meaning but mostly a mandala is the representation of the universe with an inner & outer world.
